PRECIOUS MARTIN |
Founding Partner
Precious Martin is a well-known figure in the Jackson area, having achieved success as an attorney and as a mentor to others who also want to take leading roles in making their neighborhoods and communities better places to live.
“I’ve been fortunate to be in a situation where I could help people from all walks of life,” Martin said. “As the son of a widowed mother who raised five of us on an educator’s salary, I know that investing in the lives of young people pays off immeasurably in the future.”
“We wanted Better Mississippi Group LLC to be a forum for telling the messages that often get lost in the clutter of the broader media outlets,” Martin said. “While we’re not a media group, our vision was to give groups the service of helping them make sure people hear their stories and understand their issues.”
“Better Mississippi Group provides that opportunity, and I am happy to be a founding partner of it,” he said.
The Raymond High School salutatorian for the class of 1990, Martin was also STAR student with the highest ACT score in his class. He was a presidential scholar at Tougaloo College for four years and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1994 with a degree in political science. He received his juris doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law. While participating in the National Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition, he was recognized as the best oral advocate in the nation.
As president of the Mississippi Association for Justice, Martin helped steer the group through the difficult days following Hurricane Katrina. The association’s charity designed for helping victims of natural disasters was formed during his tenure.
He is also a leader in his church, New Hope Baptist in Jackson, and currently serves as legal counsel to the Mississippi General Baptist State Convention.
Always available to help those in need, Martin provides legal help to injured people who couldn’t otherwise afford an attorney from his law office of Precious T. Martin and Associates in downtown Jackson.
Martin and his wife Crystal are the parents of four children.
